History of Reiki

Dr. Mikao Usui is the Founder of Reiki as Natural Healing. He was the president of a small Christian university in Kyoto, Japan called Doshishua University. One day, a senior student asked him whether he believes in Bible and whether he believes in the story in Bible that says Jesus cured the sick by touch healing. This created a deep interest in Dr. Usui to find out how Jesus was doing touch healing. He wandered all over the world to find out the secrets of touch healing. Lastly, he got it from Sanskrit myths while he was studying it in Tibet. After getting the theoretical knowledge there, he implemented the same with himself for 21 days. On the 21st day, he received immensely powerful cosmic energy in himself. He started to use it and thus he invented Reiki as a practical natural healing method. He came back to Japan, taught this technique to people and started giving Reiki treatment to people in Japan.

Do you want to know how Reiki was spread all over the world? Speak ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

One of the Reiki students of Dr. Usui was Chujiro Hayashi, a retired navy officer in Japan. He became right hand of Dr. Usui. When Dr. Usui felt that his life is near to end, he given the mastership of Reiki to Mr. Hayashi. Chujiro continued the tradition of Reiki healing. A lady named Hawayo Takata from USA had several illnesses and had to undergo an operation, but she listened to the inner voice and switched Reiki healing. Her ailments were healed by Reiki and then she also started to give Reiki healing to others. One day during meditation, Chujiro saw that Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be destroyed by atom bombs and he will also die. So, he decided to take ‘Samadhi’ and gave the mastership of Reiki to Mrs. Takata. After that, Mrs. Takata established Reiki International Association in USA and called upon people from various countries to learn Reiki Healing and to spread this technique in their countries. Thus, Reiki was spread across the world.
